North America Honeymoons

R & R for Gourmets

For those who want to mix dramatic scenery and outdoor activities, with gourmet cuisine and plenty of down time, this could be the honeymoon for you. It focuses on the best of Northern California, from rugged coastline, to hilly vineyards, to city neighborhoods. Connoisseurs read on...

Harbor House InnYour trip will begin the moment you touch down at San Francisco International Airport.  Here you will pick up your convertible rental car and head north, bypassing San Fran for the moment (don't worry, you'll get to visit on the way back).  Your target destination is the little town of Elk, situated on the Mendocino Coast about four hours away. This visually stunning region is the perfect place to relax and unwind after the wedding.  Sit back, read a good book, gaze at the Pacific and while away the day. This is easy to do from the comforts of the Harbor House Inn, a quaint property that successfully combines fine food and wine with understated luxury.  If you start to get antsy, take a hike in any one of the nearby state parks, explore rocky coves by kayak, play a round of golf, or simply window shop in Mendocino.

Milliken CreekSticking to our gourmet theme, your next stop will be the heart of California wine country - Napa Valley.  How to spend your time here will depend on your interests. Before setting off to explore, however, you will check into Milliken Creek, a quiet little inn hidden amidst beautiful foliage. Enjoy an outdoor massage along the riverbank, or a glass of wine on your private terrace.  Needless to say, one of Napa's favorite activities is visiting vineyards and participating in wine tastings.  Napa BalloonWith 250 to choose from, you will have many, many options!  Some you can drop in on while others will require an appointment.  Looking for a something different to taste?  How about touring an olive oil mill.  When it's time for a diversion from food and wine, you can loft over the valley in a hot air balloon, hike on paths through the countryside, or even take a wild game safari (no kidding).  Without a doubt, the Napa Valley is one of the country's best places to indulge the senses.

San FranciscoThe final stop on your honeymoon tour of Northern California will take you back to where you started, the wonderful city of San Francisco.  Just off Union Square, you will be staying at Hotel Monaco, a hip spot where they'll gladly loan you a goldfish if you'd like a little extra company.  From here the whole city is at your doorstep.  Wander through the city's diverse neighborhoods, take in a world class show, picnic in Golden Gate Park, or visit the Exploratorium, one of the best science museums around.  When the city's famous hills start to get to you, simply jump on a cable car.  Finally, since this is a trip made for gourmets, you'll have your pick of some of the country's top dining establishments, from Aqua to Masa's.  Nothing like a little urban excitement to top off a wonderful honeymoon!
