Get Outside of the Ordinary Cruise

Honeymoon CruisesDoes the lure of the open water hold some mysterious attraction over you? How about having a wide variety of activities at your fingertips? And how else can you so easily visit multiple destinations without repeatedly packing and re-packing? Simple, on a cruise, where the resort moves with you!

Cruising can offer a unique honeymoon experience - in fact one in ten couples takes a cruise as some part of their honeymoon. Cruises come in many shapes and sizes, from 3000 passenger megaships motoring through the Mediterranean to intimate luxury barges cruising the Danube River. To many, cruises offer the best
of both worlds - a wealth of activities, great food, entertainment and interesting shore excursions that provide an opportunity to see new places and experience new cultures.

Four popular cruise destinations explained

Tahiti and the Society Islands are a natural option for cruising. There are many islands, including Bora Bora, Moorea and Tahiti itself that a cruise can cover more efficiently than flying to each. By cruising through the islands, you get to experience many of their unique attributes and activities, just as you would had you stayed at multiple resorts.Cruising through this group of islands is also a special way to view the natural scenery and sunsets.

The Caribbean is a very popular cruise destination, and cruises tend to range from 3 to 14 days. Often they are segmented by general region: the Western Caribbean (Mexico, Cayman Islands and others) and the Eastern Caribbean (Bahamas, Jamaica, Virgin Islands, St. Lucia, Barbados, and others). From North America, many cruises depart from Florida or Puerto Rico, making them very easy to access.

Southeast Asia offers an interesting juxtaposition of the modern world with the ancient. You can see major cities such as Singapore and Hong Kong, yet still stop in Vietnam and ride a bicycle through the streets. A Southeast Asian cruise offers a wonderful exposure
to a variety of exotic cultures, allowing you to compare and
contrast the many differences and similarities.

Mediterranean cruises take advantage of the beauty and relaxed atmosphere of southern Europe. From Istanbul to Barcelona, you can visit some of world's ancient sites as well as try a multitude of delicious and highly varied cuisines. For a very different feel, some cruises even stop in Northern Africa - shore excursions allow you to visit the pyramids or see the ruins of Carthage.

Reasons to choose a cruise: It takes care of the majority of your vacation needs, and is generally all-inclusive in pricing (alcohol, land excursions and some activities are usually extra). Offers a wide variety of entertainment, activities, dining options and destinations. It's easy!

Reasons to choose something else: If you really like to get to know the destinations you visit; if you prefer a lot of privacy; if you prefer to experience a variety of different types of accommodations.

Just the facts...

Best suited for:
Those who want to visit a variety of destinations, enjoy the full service facilities of a resort, and don't want to worry about continually packing and unpacking. Entertainment buffs, gamblers and those who love to eat will love all the options a cruise can provide in these areas.

When to go:
If there's water, there's probably a cruise option. The determining factor will be season - cruise lines move their ships around the world accordingly. This will depend widely on the particular destination you are considering. See our Honeymoon Weather Section for additional insights on seasonal issues.

Accommodations:
Staterooms can range from small and spartan (interior or with just a porthole) to more extravagant suites with private verandahs. Options vary by ship.

Dining:
There's almost always food available somewhere on the ship! Full breakfast, lunch and dinners are served, as well as afternoon snacks and midnight buffets. Traditionally there have been two seatings for dinner at specific times and with assigned tables. Now, more lines are offering "personal choice dining" which means you can choose your own times and tables (more like a traditional restaurant). In some cases, particular onboard restaurants may not be included in the cruise price.

Special Activities:
Land excursions at various ports of call, onboard entertainment, gambling, spa, water sports (from onboard the ship itself), educational seminars.
