The real life chronicles
of two adventurous honeymooners as they travel around
the world...
Whats
your ultimate honeymoon? To some, it entails
nothing but relaxation on a tropical island far far
away. For others, it involves paddling down the Amazon
to a remote ecolodge.
For
us, it encompasses all of the above! That is why we
spent almost three months traveling around the world
on The Ultimate Honeymoon Adventure! Below (and to the
right) you will find our tales from the road, which
we e-mailed back while traveling. We had an incredible
time! The question now becomes: Where do we go for our
first anniversary? Feel free to make suggestions!
Darren's
Top Ten list...
Well,
our around-the-world adventure has finally come to a close.
In 84 days, we visited 11 countries on five continents. We
used virtually every mode of transportation known to man,
and experienced just about every climatic condition possible.
All-in-all, it was one heck of a ride! Reflecting back, it's
not all that easy to pinpoint the highlights as there were
so many. But, I'll give it a shot. So, here's my Ultimate
Honeymoon Adventure Top Ten List:
10.
Savoring the "meal of the honeymoon" at Africa Roots
restaurant in Swakopmund, Namibia
-- quite simply, the most authentic, best food we ate during
our 3-month journey.
9.
Gazing at the stars, including the Southern Cross, from the
grounds of Punatapu Lodge outside of Queenstown,
New Zealand -- with no moon, no clouds and no lights, we were
overwhelmed by the brilliance of the night sky.
8.
Strolling with Modisa and Tebbe outside of Windhoek, Namibia
-- these were our favorite dogs of the honeymoon, both Boxer
/ Rhodesian Ridgeback mixes (we both love dogs).
7.
Watching Tiffany's expression upon seeing an elephant standing
outside of our room at Selati Lodge in the Sabi
Sabi Park in South Africa -- Tiffany is nuts about animals
and this was the sighting of a lifetime.
6.
Cruising on mopeds along the Bajo Mono trail outside of Boquete,
Panama -- The 2 hour trip took us past mountains, rivers,
waterfalls, coffee plantations and castles. This is also where
I discovered that Tiffany is quite the daredevil.
5.
Camping along the banks of the Kapawi
River in the Amazon Jungle in Ecuador -- We had the sunset
to our left, the moon rising to the right, a fog moving across
the river bank and plenty of laughs due to our lack of fishing
prowess.
4.
Watching a young leopard drag a bushbuck up a tree fresh after
a kill at Mala Mala in South Africa
-- This was better than Discovery Channel, and it took place
ten feet from our Jeep.
3.
The first day of the "W Trek" in Patagonia,
Chile -- It was hard work finishing the first leg of the trek,
but the three Torres spires were more majestic than we ever
could have imagined and the weather was unusually calm for
this wind-swept part of the globe.
2.
Exploring the Franz Joseph Glacier
on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand -- The
terrain was unlike anything we had ever seen.
And,
my #1 experience of the trip...
1.
Quadbiking around the sand dunes in the Namib
Desert outside of Swapokmund, Namibia -- The Dunes were
other-worldly, and seeing them from a speeding, desert vehicle
was an amazing rush.
