The Best of Argentina

Mendoza, Patagonia and Buenos Aires

Experience Buenos Aires at night
Experience Buenos Aires at night

Exotic yet accessible, near but a world apart, exciting and still relaxing; Argentina is a great place to experience many aspects of South American culture. This diverse country is ideal for a honeymoon or other special occasion, particularly because there are so many unique experiences one can have. This itinerary touches upon many of these experiences, while also visiting some of the country's top "must see" destinations.

Upon arrival in Buenos Aires, you'll be greeted by...

a driver who will take you to the domestic airport for your short flight to Mendoza, an important part of Argentina's world-famous wine country.

But you won't stay in the city; instead you've opted for Cavas Wine Lodge, one of the most luxurious options in the country, where you're sure to start on a high note. Cavas' comfy rooms are actually more like suites, especially when you consider their roof-top terraces, complete with outdoor fireplaces, which are perfect for stargazing or a surprise degustation of tapas and Malbec. With four nights here, start by indulging yourselves in a day of relaxation, with no greater agenda other than a trip to Cavas' spa, featuring both vinotherapies and traditional treatments.

Relaxed and happy, it's now time to experience...

what makes the region famous: food and wine! We propose a day trip to the Uco Valley, about an hour south of Cavas. At a slightly higher altitude, Uco features famous Malbecs, but has diversified into other varietals such as Cabernet, Tempranillo and Syrah. You'll be able to visit some up and coming wineries, one of which includes a tasting of local cheeses, paired with their excellent cabernets. Lunch at a local spot features farm to table produce along with wine pairings, all while overlooking snow-capped mountains and endless vineyards. In the afternoon, you'll visit a start up vineyard that doesn't yet have enough volume to export their excellent wines.

Soft adventure in the Andean foothills

For your final day in Mendoza, it's time to take advantage of...

some soft adventure on an exciting whitewater rafting trip. Don a wetsuit and a helmet and off you go into the class III and IV rapids! During harvest season it can be hot in Mendoza, so a bit of spray is most welcomed.

While Mendoza was a perfect introduction to Argentina, it's time for a change of scene. You'll take a morning flight via Buenos Aires to your next adventure in El Calafate, gateway to the central part of Argentinean Patagonia and Glaciers National Park. You'll be greeted by the enthusiastic staff from Eolo, and taken by private 4x4 to the lodge, known for its breathtaking views of the Patagonian steppe and easy access to all the activities in the area. The focus now is on the great outdoors!

But before that, you'll be introduced to the lodge's cuisine: all your meals are included. As a Relais&Chateaux property, Eolo's chef knows a few things about food. If you thought the exciting Patagonian activities might counterbalance all the good food you had in Mendoza…well, now is not the time to concern yourselves with such things. Rather, enjoy the delicious meals and perfect hospitality Eolo has to offer.

Perito Moreno is a very active glacier
Perito Moreno is a very active glacier

One day you must visit...

Perito Moreno Glacier – this giant piece of ice creaks and cleaves at regular intervals; a dramatic showing of Mother Nature's force as immense icicles slide into the lake below. You'll also have the chance for "mini-trekking" on the glacier itself, witnessing first-hand the blue ice, crevasses and moving landscape that comprise Perito Moreno. Your next day, a half day horseback ride with one of the lodge's guides is the perfect way to take in the surrounding landscape.

Your final stop is one you've looked forward to since the beginning: the famous city of Buenos Aires is an ideal place to conclude, with its broad boulevards, sprawling parks, outstanding museums, world-class cuisine and spirited nightlife. The beautifully-designed yet comfortable Faena Hotel and Universe in the up and coming Puerto Madero district will be your city home as you explore its many neighborhoods.

an evening dinner or a drink at one of the city's many bars or clubs. The next morning you'll be met by your guide for a half day overview tour of the city and its history. Of course you'll learn about Juan and Evita, the current state of political affairs, Recoleta Cemetery and the city's wonderful and diverse neighborhoods. This is an essential introduction so that you get the most from your of three days here.

After your tour, we've arranged a...

Then be prepared to be wowed by what arrives from the kitchen – all paired with perfect wines and warm service. Let's just say we won't make any dinner reservations for you tonight….

The next day is reserved for you. One idea is to visit the Museum of Modern Art; the collection of local artists is superb, and their courtyard restaurant is a destination unto itself, perfect for lunch. This evening. Argentinean culture is front and center, and so are you with VIP seating to Rojo Tango, the best tango show in town. Dinner is included as are drinks, so sit back, and take pleasure in the sensual display of live dance that is today enjoying a revival in BA. If you prefer, we can also arrange for you to visit a Milonga, where you'll take a Tango class and then be free to dance the night away with the Porteños (locals) themselves.
